After close, everyone wants movement. Systems need to move. People need answers. Customers need reassurance. The buyer wants integration. The seller wants relief. The team wants to know what is changing, what is not changing, and whether the promises made in the room will survive contact with Monday.

It is tempting to treat the first 30 days as an execution sprint. Some of it is. But most of the first month is translation.

The buyer has to translate the deal thesis into operating priorities. The seller has to translate years of informal knowledge before it walks out the door. The team has to translate old habits into new expectations. The systems team has to translate how the business actually works into workflows, fields, reports, permissions, and process.

That translation is where integrations get hard. Not because people are unwilling. Because the same words mean different things in different companies.

The same word, five jobs

Complete may mean the field is done. Or the invoice can go out. Or the customer signed. Or the project manager has finished reviewing the file. Service may mean demand work, warranty work, planned maintenance, quoted repairs, or anything that is not install. Margin may be understood by finance one way, by sales another way, and by the branch in whatever way helps them make the next decision.

A word like complete is a door that four departments walk through expecting different rooms on the other side. Standardize the word before you understand the rooms, and you have not aligned the business. You have just made the disagreement quieter and harder to find.

Before a buyer standardizes the business, they need to understand the language inside it. What does the team call the work? Which reports are trusted? Which numbers get argued over? Which customer promises are undocumented but real? Where does the system language not match the field language?

The first 30 days are not only about moving quickly. They are about making sure the business being integrated is the business that actually exists.

Translation is not delay. It is how you keep speed from becoming damage.
